This movie was so much more than I wanted. And I was already asking for a lot. I wanted a fun revenge flick with some decent performances. Instead I got that and an actual plot and one of the best acting performances of the year in Butler. He conveys so much emotions and carries the entire movie. He's funny, frightening, heartfelt, smart and just brilliant. I was not a fan of his, but now I might be. As good as it was, Foxx just did not bring it as well as Butler. He was okay, if a little flat. That being said, he wasn't awful, just a bit of a stock character. Overall, great movie, one of my top five favorites of the year so far.

Wed. Sept. 30th. This 1hr 45min action/suspense/thriller stars Gerard Butler and Jamie Foxx - with a EXCELLENT supporting cast comprising Viola Davis, Colm Meaney, Leslie Bibb, Bruce McGill. The themes of revenge/vengeance and justice weighed heavily on plot - setting the dark dreary tone/ambiance in this high-quality slick production. Nevertheless, it was done at the expense of the various characters' developments. The first half of the movie, the film-makers will have you rooting for Clyde Shelton - then an abrupt switch of gears and we were supposed to view him in a negative light - such indecisiveness is very jarring. I can't help but get the feeling like I was watching a steroid/adrenaline-pumped movie version of TV's DEXTER. The ending was non-cathartic. If the film-makers wanted then to cast Nick Rice as the hero for killing two birds with one stone, I was left majorly puzzled/perplexed by the inconsistency in characterization. Still - worth checking out.

This movie is a standout! It is unpredictable, chilling, and thought provoking. What would you do if you were Clyde? It was incredible to see Mr. Butler take on this role and show a very dark, disturbing, and heartbroken man. Mr. Foxx did a good job with his role also. When put all together I think all who watch it will be entertained and be asking some interesting questions with their friends afterwards. I highly recommend you see this movie! A winner! Lots of action and edge of the seat suspense. Gerard Butler plays an awesome bad guy. Jamie Foxx doesn't really stretch since he is an arrogant butt in real life. But I digress... The main plot is very thriling and the twists really keep you totally engrossed in the movie. There are plenty of booms and gunplay, plus some very gorey death scenes. This is not for the faint of heart. It is one of the best action movies in quite a while. But the storyline slips a bit when you get into the workings of city hall and the actions of the mayor. It is pretty weak. And of course, it makes no sense when the star has to be the hero and does tasks that the character would never do in real life. But of course this sets up the big climatic ending. And one of my measures of any movie is how long did I feel that I was in the theater. This movie runs about two hours but at the end it was like I had one been there an hour. Time flew by and the action was well paced. Great movie, Go See It!!

I am a huge film fanatic and Law Abiding Citizen has everything you want from a great thriller. Its an edge of your seat movie that never fails to surprise - just when you think you know whats going on bam it flings it out of the ball park. I cannot recommend this highly enough. The audience reaction at the 2 screenings I saw tell you they got it right on all levels. The acting is superb especially Gerard Butler who plays the father/husband out seeking justice from a sytem that failed him. He deserves award recognition - HFPA are you reading this???. He conveys so many emotions in the movie its a wonder people still have the nerve to say "Gerard Who". F Gary Gray did an awesome job at directing and the score by Brian Tyler is one of the best I have heard this year. Run don't walk to your nearest multiplex come Friday 16 Oct
